WILLIAM MORRis - the oxfordshire museum

an earthly paradise

william morris and the thames

It's a bit late to urge you to get to see the incredible wealth of imagery in the "William Morris" exhibition at the Oxfordshire Museum in Woodstock... it closes today. But what a show. Honestly, it was utterly amazing! The man was a complete genius. And if you didn't get to see it, you've missed a good'un.

On display were initial sketches, paintings of his most famous wallpaper and fabric patterns, carved wooden blocks for printing and a little room display showing the finished wallpapers and fabrics. It was a visual progression from initial concept to completion. The detail he captured and added to his designs is nothing short of astonishing. Even if you 'thought' you weren't a fan of this mans work, I promise you, you'd be a convert.

And it also brings to mind the sublime 2015 "Love is Enough" at Modern Art Oxford, I think my favourite art exhibition, ever... Warhol and Morris. Warhol's iconic Marilyn, Liz Taylor and Chairman Mao on Morris wallpaper!!! One I'll never, never forget.
